Passage
“But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have reason to boast in himself alone, and not in another.” — Galatians 6:4
Reflection
You open your phone for five minutes and you’ve already seen someone’s trip, someone’s body, someone’s relationship, the party you weren’t invited to. All of it edited, chosen, shown from its best angle. And you compare it to your real day: the homework you don’t understand, the fight with your parents, the breakout that showed up right before the big event.
That comparison will always leave you losing, because you’re comparing your entire behind-the-scenes to someone else’s edited highlight reel. Nobody posts the moment they cried in their room or doubted themselves. They post the best shot out of fifteen tries.
Galatians 6:4 says something that sounds strange the first time you read it: examine your own work, without measuring it against someone else’s. Not because growing or improving doesn’t matter, but because measuring yourself against a ruler that isn’t yours will always give you a twisted result.
Psalm 139:14 goes even deeper: you are fearfully and wonderfully made, exactly as you were made, not as an improved version of someone else. God doesn’t compare you to anyone on the feed. He knows you completely, the parts you show and the parts you don’t.
Prayer
God, help me stop measuring myself against what I see on a screen. Remind me that you made me, not a copy of anyone else, and that you know me completely, not just the part I choose to show. Amen.
